Le Jour de Neige

The past two weekends have been very busy. I was helping other people move - the worst kind of move. It's not even your own stuff you have to schlep up and down stairs. Oh, and I painted my kitchen grey. Get excited for the before/after pictures! It looks kind of amazing.

Today, however, on this cold, snowy day off, I am going to relax. Do things for me. Run errands, organize my closet, and best of all, continue making progress in my Rosetta Stone: French Level 1 (which is amazing and I highly recommend).

La femme court.
Les hommes écrivent.
Le chien. Le chat. Le cheval.

Impressed? I didn't know what any of that meant two days ago. Now I can say it, spell it, write it, understand it. Brilliant! I was a Spanish kid all through my school days, and I've wanted to learn French for the past five or six years. And since 2011 is the year I'm finally returning to Europe (nothing is set in stone other than my determination), it will also be the year I learn the language of Loooooove. Capital L.

What are your plans for the day?

  1. Hey Alaina - I'm planning a similar goal for myself, for 2012...and have always wanted to be able to tell people that I can speak French. Do you like the Rosetta Stone? How much French did you know before you started?

Thanks - enjoy your day off!

  2. those photos are gorgeous! i love them! good luck with your french learning - i've always wanted to pick it up too

  4. Hi Alaina! I also wanted to learn French but after buying countless books and no success I resorted to just waiting for the moment I have enough saved up to take a class. But classes are so expensive. :( Does the Rosetta Stone level 1 good for beginners? Hope all is well..

  5. Hey Alaina, I just stumbled across your blog...I'm also a fellow Chicago blogger. I saw that you hosted a meet up over the summer in 2010. If another meetup is happening some time soon, I would love to join.
    Take care. Atelier Turner

  6. I love this, Alaina! I am really hoping I'll make it to London & Paris this year. Not counting on it for 2011, but if I can make it by the end of 2012 I'll be very, very happy.

Can't wait to see the kitchen! I still haven't painted my apartment. :)

  7. I too am trying to learn French this year, in hopes that I see through my goal of visiting Paris in the next year or two. It's been difficult because I took Spanish from 8th grade through the end of college, so pronunciation keeps throwing me off! Goodluck!

  8. Beautiful pics! Wish I was there now with a cappuccino and pastry!

  9. Italian is my next language to tackle - Hubs and I plan to do a road trip through Italy in a couple of summers so I want to be fluent by the time I get there.

Beautiful photographs - who took them??

We plan to do our kitchen grey and white... but that's a long way off still. Can't wait to see yours!

    - agata.

  10. Love your blog! I'm a new follower! Hope you have an AWESOME week!

  11. Alaina,

Who created these images? They are gorgeous!

  12. It's les hommes écrivent, not les homme écrivent. You have to add an s to homme when you are talking about more than one!

  13. LOVE the Paris pictures ~ so pretty! When are you going?

Question/Favor: Would you mind stopping by and sharing any advice you have on shooting indoors at night? I'm helping out with my sister's wedding reception this weekend and could use all the help I can get! Thanks!

  14. I visit here every day round 2:30 at work...while daydreaming. So lovely.

  15. Yay can't wait to see your newly painted kitchen!

I'm glad to hear Rosetta Stone is going so well! I've always wanted to learn a language but never really had time in high school or college due to other commitments...Rosetta Stone might have to be my solution. Now I just have to decide on a language...I'm leaning toward Italian.

  16. Gorgoeus, amazing, beautiful pictures of Paris in the snow! So happy to hear you like Rosetta Stone. I have been contemplating getting Rosetta French for a now my decision is made after hearing a first hand recommendation. Merci mon amie!

  17. Just had to say how lovely these pictures are - I enjoy reading your blog very much!
